PMP®-CAPM® Exam Prep Training

DBT Project Management & Consulting, Basel

We have prepared and delivered over ten PMP®-CAPM® Examination Preparation training courses to companies and groups of participants, as well as on an individual (tutorial or Einzelunterricht basis) throughout the German-speaking parts of Switzerland.

Project Management Institute (PMI®) and the PMBOK® Guide

Persons who are not familiar with either the Project Management Institute (PMI®) or the PMBOK® Guide ("A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge") published by PMI® will find introductory information about PMI® and the PMBOK® Guide on the following internal link: PMI and the PMBOK Guide

Primary Purpose

The primary purpose of this training course is to prepare participants to pass the examinations necessary for the Project Management Professional (PMP®) and Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) project management accreditations with the Project Management Institute (PMI®).

Secondary Purpose

The secondary purpose of this training course is to provide an excellent advanced project course for experienced as well as unexperienced project managers, project team members, subject-matter technical experts, PMO (Project Management Office) managers, project assistants and other persons working in or with company projects. We also provide tutoring (Einzelunterricht), individual coaching, or special private lessons for persons who need or prefer such direct training and who wish to arrange this with us. The training normally takes place at the client's or other suitable elocation. The duration of the training is 35 hours.

Target Audiences

The target audiences for this training are:

  1. experienced project managers who wish to obtain the globally-recognized PMP® accreditation from PMI®, and
  2. new project managers, project assistants and team members with specialized skills who wish to obtain the globally-recognized CAPM® accreditation from PMI®, or project managers who do not yet have the experience required to be eligible for the PMP®

PMP® Accreditation

The PMP® is broadly recognized as the leading global certification standard of the project management profession. Obtaining this project management accreditation usually has numerous advantages, both for the individual and the organization in which he/she works.  To be qualified for the PMP®, applicants must:

  • have 35 hours of verifiable project management training, and
  • have either a bachelor's degree plus a minimum of 4'500 hours of project management experience, or have a high school diploma plus a minimum of 7'500 hours of project management experience, and
  • must pass a 200-question project management exam in four hours.

CAPM® Accreditation

The CAPM® accreditation is designed for new, or relatively inexperienced project managers, and persons who provide specialized skills to a project, such as subject-matter experts like engineers, IT / computer specialists, project assistants, project office administrative personnel, etc. Participants do not need to have previous experience in project management. Participants of the client's organization usually attend at the same time together with participants from the same organization attending the PMP® training. This has the advantage that new project managers and team members also learn from their more-experienced PM colleagues during the training exercises, discussions, and other group interactions. If a project manager does not yet met the minimum experience requirements for the PMP®, they may obtain the CAPM® credential until they do meet the PMP® requirements. To be qualified for the CAPM®, applicants must:

  • have a high school diploma, plus
  • have either at least 23 hours of verifiable project management training, or have a minimum of 1'500 hours of project management experience,
  • must pass a 150-question project management exam in three hours.

Advantages of this Training Course

This course enables project managers, as well as professionals who provide specialized skills to projects, to complete PMI® exam preparation training within a short period of time. The training is conducted and guided by an experienced project manager and project management trainer who is PMP® accredited. Explanations, clarifications, exercises, learning games, and discussions increase the participants understanding and learning.

PMI® Project Management Process Groups and Knowledge Areas

All five PMI® project management process groups (initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing) and all ten PMI® project management knowledge areas (integration, scope, schedule, cost, quality, resources, communications, risk, procurement, and stakeholder management) are covered, as well as other aspects, for example, the PMI® Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct not included in the PMBOK® Guide (A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge), Sixth Edition.

English is the Training Language Used

English is the language normally used for this training course, and all or most of the training materials are in English. Thus, a basic understanding of English is necessary. The trainer also speaks German very well and has a basic knowledge of French. Certain actions can be undertaken to help those participants weak in English or only speak other languages.

Tailor-Made Schedule of Training

The days and hours during which this training course will take place may be structured to accommodate a tailor-made, customized schedule suitable to the client. The exact schedule will be coordinated and mutually agreed to between the client and the trainer.
